The Kenya Drylands Education Fund (KDEF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and expanding access to education for underserved populations in the remote, arid regions of Northern Kenya, primarily focusing on Marsabit and Samburu Counties.

The Challenge .

The Kenya Drylands Education Fund (KDEF) operates in remote, ultra-poor regions of Northern Kenya, tackling complex, multi-faceted barriers to education (water scarcity, inadequate infrastructure, cultural hurdles). The challenge was to transform their website into a powerful and clear platform that effectively communicates their unique, holistic EnART model (Enrollment, Attendance, Retention, Transition) and diverse programs to potential global donors and partners, making a compelling case for financial support.

What We Did .

Madavi Agency executed a comprehensive website redesign for KDEF (kdef.org). The strategy focused on:

  1. Clarity of Mission: Clearly defining the problem (low literacy, generational poverty) and KDEF’s solution (the EnART model).

  2. Program Segmentation: Logically structuring the diverse intervention areas—Scholarships, Infrastructure, WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene), School Feeding, and Menstrual Hygiene—to show the scope of their work.

  3. Impact-Driven Storytelling: Integrating compelling stories and updates from Northern Kenya to emotionally connect donors with the scholars and communities they serve.

  4. Optimized Donation Flow: Ensuring prominent and easy-to-use calls to action for donations and engagement.

02

Outcome / Results .

  • Improved Donor Confidence: The professional, organized presentation of KDEF’s holistic approach ensures that potential donors understand the depth and sustainability of the intervention, strengthening trust and increasing the likelihood of long-term partnership.

  • Increased Program Visibility: Clear segmentation of the ‘Our Programs’ section ensures all initiatives (from infrastructure to menstrual hygiene) receive the attention necessary to attract specific funding and in-kind support.

  • Enhanced Storytelling & Engagement: The integrated ‘Our Scholars’ and ‘Stories from Northern Kenya’ sections maximize the emotional impact, resulting in a higher conversion rate on “Ways to Give” and increased sign-ups for updates, ultimately supporting KDEF’s goal to empower more students.
