Empathy

Food is the heart of most cultures. In Kenya, food is central to family gatherings and celebrations. It’s what binds people, a tangible way of showing love and respect. But in recent years, the Kenyan food industry has suffered from concerns around safety especially with the emergence of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

Definition

With most people moving to urban communities, there has been a scarcity of fresh produce with the right nutrients readily available at the right cost. This has led to many people settling for cheaper options which are mostly grown in urban areas around wastewater(sewage) areas.

Ideation

Through this, Vikaboni’s idea was born to solve the major problem. A structured way to connect urban dwellers with farmers in remote areas providing fresh organic and affordable produce.

Testing

Madavi Agency came up with a design product map for a two pronged product that will act as a marketplace for prospective customers and an easy way for farmers to sign up and become part of the network. We created a WhatsApp bot with defined steps for making orders designed for customers. For Farmers signup, we used a web platform coupled with WhatsApp with future plans of using USSD due to its high access coverage through the major SIM providers in Kenya.

Vikaboni was able to consolidate 100+ orders within the first month of going live and this was attributed to ease of use of the platform and the quick responses of the team.
